An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer and serves as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, web servers also use an Operating System which functions as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
If you choose to acquire one of our VPS server plans, you shall be able to select one of the three Linux releases which we supply for the OS of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are among the most preferred and most reliable server OSs available and we offer them so that you have a choice for the software environment of your machine if you wish to install some app with specific requirements regarding the packages that must be present on the server. We also offer three hosting Control Panels and which one of them you may use depends on the OS that you've selected. We leave the possibility to change the server Operating System open, so when you want to use an app that requires an OS different from the one you have, we can always re-install the VPS. We can also keep the OS up-to-date weekly by installing any security updates that may be available.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license taxes, but they’re also regarded as the most reliable and safe OSs. We provide three different ones since each one of them is backed by a separate community. The packages which you could add on your server are different and this could matter if you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements about the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the OS that you will pick. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems during the order procedure, however if needed, we can always set up the server once again with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the plan at any time, we can update your OS on a regular basis to keep it as secure as possible.
